Red Barn Events loves weddings and we also love gowns! The Miss America 2016 pageant was held on September 13th, 2015 in Atlantic City, New Jersey where Miss Georgia, Beth Cantrell won the title of Miss America 2016. Not to be confused with the Miss USA pageant that was held in Louisiana this past summer, the Miss America Organization is the largest scholarship provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Contestants in the Miss America pageant compete in Interview, Evening Gown, Talent, Lifestyle and Fitness, and On-stage Question.
Red Barn Events’ favorite area of competition to watch is, of course, the evening gown! We love seeing the latest fashion trends for dresses as many of the evening gowns on the Miss America stage can also double as a wedding dress! White was definitely this year’s pageant color as most of the contestants in the Top 10 wore white! Plus, Miss America, Beth Cantrell wore white! I guess the old pageant saying is true, “White is a winning color!”
Here are our top 5 dresses (in no particular order) from the Miss America Evening Gown competition that we think would double wonderfully as a wedding dress! Photos are from the Miss America Organization’s Facebook page.
1. Shannon Sanderford, Miss Texas
Miss Texas, Shannon Sanderford, is wearing an evening gown from Shimmer Boutique located right here in the DFW area! We absolutely love the draping of her train! If you look closely, the train has an elegant floral print giving a hint of romance and glam! We love how the stoning on the bodice and neckline accents her face and frame perfectly! Miss Rhode Island also wore a version of this dress in black!
2. Mary-Katherine Fetchel, Miss Florida
This gown is simple yet elegant giving a very old Hollywood glamor vibe! The cap sleeves, puddle train, and front key-hole with the lustrous silk fabric would be the PERFECT wedding gown! If you’re looking for a classy head-turning gown when you walk down the aisle, this would be the dress!
3. Emily Kieliszewski, Miss Michigan
Look at that skirt and look at those shoulders! With the cut of the bodice, the styling of her up-do hair, and her long dangling earrings, you can’t help, but notice her shoulders! Miss Michigan, Emily Kieliszewski looks like a fairy tale princess in this beautiful snow-white dress! This ball gown accented at the waistline with a band of rhinestones, along with the glittering overlay bodice over the sweetheart neckline is simply gorgeous!
4. Kelsey Early, Miss Maine
Miss Maine’s evening gown is a great dress for petite ladies! The AB stone accented cap sleeves, tear drop earrings, and plunging neckline keeps the focus towards her face. While the empire waist with the large band of stoning, and the simple straight skirt elongates her figure! This dress would be perfect for both a wedding ceremony and reception, since the comfortable jersey material and train-free design makes it easy to move around and dance in!
